July 4th,  10 AM

Old Settlers Picnic Grounds on Glen Lake

Join community members of all ages in celebrating the founding of our nation in a joyous and patriotic ceremony. The traditional raising of the flag will be followed by a singalong of well-loved and familiar patriotic songs. 

Featured Speaker:  Eric Carlson

“The Importance of a Free Press to Our Nation”

Eric Carlson is best known in Leelanau County for his 25-year career as a reporter and columnist for the Leelanau Enterprise newspaper. He will share his views on the importance of a free press to our nation, especially in times of war and domestic conflict. Before he began working at the Leelanau Enterprise in 1998, he served for 25 years in the United States Marine Corps as a combat correspondent and a public affairs officer.  He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, and the Somali Civil War. 

The Flag Raising Ceremony begins at 10 am, July 4th, at the Old Settlers Picnic Grounds, located on the southeastern shore of Glen Lake near the corner of Dunn’s Farm Rd. (CR 675) and Burdickville Rd (CR 616). Please bring your own lawn chairs. The event is sponsored by Glen Lake Woman’s Club. After the program the chapel at Old Settlers Park will be open for tours.

Social

Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month and usually include a speaker. The public is welcome to attend. And we always have fun at social events like our Christmas luncheon!  Please visit our Facebook page by clicking on the blue Facebook logo at the bottom of the page.                                                                                        

Scholarships

The annual Arts and Crafts Fair is our main fund faising activity and is held on the third Wednesday in July. The funds raised support scholarships for students from Glen Lake Community Schools.

One of the events we sponsor is the Flag Raising on the 4th of July at Old Settlers Picnic Grounds. We also maintain the inside of the Chapel there and the gardens immediately surrounding it.
